There are many different ways to trade in a game of football, mainly in-running as 'regular' trading before the kick off isn't viable as the odd's tend to be stagnent, unlike with horse racing. In-running trading in football matches also has the advantage of being over quite a long period of time (90mins) in which there is often quite a lot of action, goals and sending's off being the biggest factor in changing the odd's. Though the teams performance and time also play a role.
Trading however can be a minefield to punters though, as unlike placing a simple bet like (Man utd to beat Liverpool - £10 @ 1/2) then waiting to collect the £5 profit if Man utd win or take a £10 loss if Liverpool win or draw. Traders can be actively placing bet's throughout the full 90mins. - They could lay off if the price shortens to ensure a profit whatever the result, take measures to minimise losses if the game isn't going there way, and the way that the odd's can move (shorten or drift out - often to very short prices like 1.01 or even drift out to 999/1) there is always something that a trader can do.
Another thing that i like about trading is the aspect of recognising value, now this may not be for everyone - but if you feel confident in your ability to 'price up' (accurately asses the odd's) a match then you can place backs when you feel that you are getting better odd's than what a selection should be, and lay when you feel the odd's are too short. Hopefully the market will then come back into line with your assesment of the odd's then you can ensure a profit all round whatever the result by backing / laying off. However the football markets are generally pretty accurate, but you may get good opportunities to do this after a goal has been scored and the market is reset.
